Position Overview: A Tu Nidito Support Specialist is responsible for coordinating bereavement support groups for grieving children, youth, and families and for providing individual support for families experiencing a child’s diagnosis of a serious medical condition. The coordinator addresses and assesses the needs of the Spanish speaking community through outreach, education and collaboration.

About Tu Nidito: Tu Nidito is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to create a community of acceptance and understanding for those grieving a serious medical condition or death. Our vision is no child grieves alone. Our Guiding Principles are: to provide meaningful experiences to our clients and community; to strengthen our community by providing support, resources and education in the field of childhood grief; to believe in providing our services with compassion, expertise, integrity and empathy to all grieving families. All programs are offered in English and Spanish at no cost to children and families.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a Psychology, Family Studies & Human Development, Social Work or similar field.
- Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written.
- Experience working with children & families.
- Ability to work some evenings each month and some weekends.
- Service oriented individual who demonstrates respect, compassion, and care with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
- Commitment to Tu Nidito’s mission.
- Task oriented with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite and Apricot Suite
- Demonstrated ability and desire to identify, discuss and challenge the issues and impact of equity, diversity, inclusion within our organization and among our stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure a high-quality referral and program-entry process for both Spanish speaking participants and community members, grounded in exceptional customer service.
- Coordinate closed-session and open-ended bereavement support groups by:
- Completing referrals.
- Completing intake assessment interviews for prospective participants.
- Using leadership skills to develop a safe group environment for participants and volunteers.
- Maintaining ongoing, timely documentation of all participants enrolled in assigned groups.
- Maintaining ongoing, timely communication with all participants enrolled in assigned groups.
- Provide individualized, emotional support to children/families enrolled in Tu Nidito’s one-on-one programs by:
- Completing intake assessment interviews for prospective families.
- Developing family centered plans of care.
- Completing timely psychosocial assessments for each family.
- Creating and implementing developmentally appropriate activities to help the family/child process their emotions and experiences related to the diagnosis and treatment of the serious medical condition.
- Ensuring accurate and appropriate documentation of all family/child interactions through the timely completion of progress notes.
- Providing bereavement support to families/children should the diagnosed child die.
- In partnership with the Director of Community Impact, cultivate collaborations and partnerships with educational and community organizations serving the Hispanic community.
- Support Grief Response work as needed.
- Help to identify Spanish translation needs of documents and resources necessary for Tu Nidito programming.
- Additional duties as required.
Employee & Agency Stewardship
- Participate in an annual self-evaluation for performance review including creation of measurable personal and agency goals.
- Attend all staff meetings or other events where staff presence is important.
- Take an active role in promoting and perpetuating the values and principles of the agency internally and externally.
- Contribute to Tu Nidito’s strategic planning process.
- Continually work as a part of a team of professionals fostering mutual respect, trust and value, and striving for excellence in all Tu Nidito undertakings, including those outside primary job responsibilities.
- Participate in educational, outreach and public relations activities that promote Tu Nidito’s services, as well as its vision and mission.
- Recognize role in working toward department goals and objectives as well as agency vision while embracing the values and principles in all actions and decision making.
Salary and Benefits: Salary range is $40,000 to $44,000. Tu Nidito offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, long term disability, life insurance, Simple IRA, sick and paid time off.
