Dear Friends of the Nest,

As we move into Summer, many people look forward to activities such as heading to the beach, swimming, vacationing and spending time with family. Though these things bring hope and excitement for so many, there are children and families having a harder time because they are experiencing the diagnosis of a serious medical condition or death of a loved one. Tu Nidito continues its programs all through the summer months allowing children, teens, their caregivers and young adults a safe space to hold their grief and be amongst those experiencing similar situations and feelings. This month, children in our bereavement support groups will have the opportunity to create “What I Wish for You” cards to give to the adults and caregivers in their lives who are grieving to help them feel better. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for continuing to facilitate these sessions and help us provide much needed support services at our little nest.

It is still several months away, but save the date for one of our favorite nights of the year with Tu Nidito’s Dueling Pianos event on September 6, 2024 at Site 17! The grief work we do is difficult, but we’re excited to present this fun evening where everyone can sing and dance the night away. Food and beverage will abound including a buffet dinner and full bar. Keep an eye out on our website for tickets to go on sale in just a few days. We are excited to share this amazing night with everyone. Sponsorship opportunities are available now.

We wish you all a safe and exciting summer. We truly appreciate all of the continued support for Tu Nidito and the services we provide to children and families grieving throughout Southern Arizona.

With gratitude,

Liz McCusker,

Executive Director

Happening at The Nest…

Whether we are big or small, we all grieve.

During the month of June, families that come to Tu Nidito will practice awareness about how both children and adults are impacted by their grief. The book for this month is “Shining Bright Through the Night” written by Tu Nidito facilitator Anissa Ferris. The book guides the reader to identify certain behaviors that shift after the death of a special person. People grieving may not joke or laugh as much as before. It then encourages both caregivers and children alike, to find ways to comfort each other and ask themselves, “What do I wish for my caregiver?” or “What do I wish for my children?”

Families attending support groups due to a serious medical condition will reflect their own feelings and connect them to a song. Then, as a group, children will create a song that depicts their feelings while also noting what brings them comfort during challenging times.

With Tu Nidito’s support, families will learn to cope by finding comfort with each other, ensuring they will never feel alone on their grief journey.

Thank you for joining us at “The Dance”!

What an incredible night! Thank you for your support at the 2024 Remarkable Celebration. Because of you, we have raised $245,000!! These funds directly support children and families grieving a serious medical condition or death.
